Acts 2, 2-4
When the day of pentecost came, all were all together in one place. Suddenly, a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

The painting captures the early church gathered in quiet reverence around the breaking of bread. Men and women sit together, their faces reflecting a range of emotions—from wonder to deep focus. At the center is Mary, a figure of steadfast trust and quiet strength. In the midst of their prayer, the Holy Spirit descends, touching each heart. Some exchange glances of awe, while others remain in deep prayer, marking a profound moment when the apostles will soon leave the safety of this room to share the good news.

Earthy tones ground the scene, creating a sense of calm unity. Mary’s blue mantle is the only vivid color, drawing the eye to her presence, while the blue chalice on the table mirrors her, symbolizing Christ’s sacrifice and binding these elements together.
