The Abundance

About Painting

The inspiration for this piece came at the moment when I brought home an elongated canvas of atypical size. At that time I was reading the gospel of Luke and as I was gazing at the canvas wondering if I will ever use it, the idea of fish crossed my mind. Big load of fish overlapping each other, playing with different vivid colors, with interplay of light and shadow was pictured in my mind. The first great miracle of fish that culminated in the call of Peter.

I portraided Jesus gently touching the shoulders of his future disciples while they are occupied with the kaleidoscope of fish. I used bright colors to bring joy and enthusiasm to the scene, the promise of abundance that follows the struggle.

I hope when people see it, they feel that sense of possibility—that in the midst of ordinary lives through Jesus, we might encounter something truly extraordinary.
