Madonna with Child

Mary stands in front of the shepherd’s cave, the birthplace of her son, Jesus. It’s nighttime, and the moonlight casts reflections on the rocks beneath the dark sky. I chose a mix of warm and cold tones for this piece. Mary’s veil extends from the blue of the night sky, while Jesus’ blanket echoes the warm hues of the cave. Purple, blending the stability of blue and the energy of red, unifies these colors.

 

In this portrayal, Mary has gentle features and a youthful complexion. She holds Jesus close to her heart, reflecting on the future. 

 

This piece is a tribute not only to Mary for her divine yes, but also to all new mothers, celebrating their affirmation of life. Hail Mary, pray for us.
